Northumberland Castles
Norham Castle
Norham Castle is set high on a mound next to the river tweed and has the dubious honour of being the castle most frequently atacked by the Scots, being besieged at least 13 times. Norham Castle is also known far and wide thanks to the paintings of it by artist J M W Turner, him of the Turner prize. His painting Norham Castle, Sunrise, c.1845 is one of the highlights of his collection on display at Tate Britain.
